“I’ll look to be 100% ready for next year, which I believe will be the last year of my professional career,” Nadal, 36, said at a press conference. “The progression of the injury I sustained in Australia has not gone as planned.” I’ve dropped ambitions along the road, and Roland Garros has become unattainable.

Nadal, who turns 37 next month, announced his retirement – and future plans – at a press conference at his tennis academy in Manacor, Spain.
He stated that he did not want to set a timeline for his comeback to the tennis circuit, but that it will take months.
Nadal stated that he needs to stop playing for the foreseeable future in order to fully heal and return for what he expects to be his final season. “I’m not going to set a date for my return. “I’ll see how my body reacts and go from there,” he stated. “If I keep playing like this, I don’t think I’ll be there next year.” I’m not sure if I’ll be able to compete for Grand Slams at the highest level again. What I’ll attempt to do is give myself the chance to return to what could be my final year.” — According to Reuters
